From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:

By the numbers
5:
Touchdown passes thrown by Judson quarterback Joseph Dimando during a 56-27 win vs. Wagner on Sept. 26. The total is a school record, equaling a mark previously recorded by Cap Watters (1983), Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey (2013), Julon Williams (2016 and 2017) and Elijah Favela (2022).
A junior, Dimando completed 11 of 16 attempts for 302 yards against Wagner. He connected with Jay’maree Bowens for TDs of 90 and 17 yards, Donald Grinage on a 75-yard score and Jonathan Clay and Ernest Williams each on 33-yard scoring tosses. A week earlier in a 51-41 win vs. Clemens, Dimando connected on 40 of 50 attempts for 439 yards and three TDs. The Rockets (2-2), who are idled this week before resuming District 27-6A play at home vs. Pieper on Oct. 9, are 2-0 in league play for the first time since 2020. They started 3-0 in 2022 but forfeited one of the wins after using an ineligible player.

36: Consecutive district losses to Johnson in volleyball by LEE before snapping the losing streak with a 22-25, 25-16, 13-25, 25-22, 15-11 triumph on Sept. 8. Thirty-one of the setbacks were in sweeps. The two teams are scheduled to face off as the second half of District 28-6A action kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday at Littleton Gym.

200: Career wins for O’Connor volleyball coach Megan Liverett, who reached the milestone during a victory vs. Taft on Sept. 18. Liverett is in her third season at the helm of the Panthers and a year ago guided them to the UIL Class 6A Division I state semifinals before falling in a five-set heartbreaker (25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14) to Pearland Dawson. She previously was the head coach at MacArthur for seven seasons and led the Brahmas to two postseason berths ( 2022 and 2023) and their first playoff win since 2010.

400: Career victories for Harlan volleyball coach Monica Gonzales. She hit the standard with a victory vs. O’Connor on Sept. 15. Gonzales is in her ninth season at Harlan and led the Hawks to the UIL Class 6A state tournament in 2023 and to at least the Region IV-6A tournament in
five of the previous six seasons (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). A former player at Jefferson and the University of Incarnate Word, she previously was head coach at Brennan and Fox Tech.

500: Total wins for Smithson Valley volleyball coach Melissa Miller. She reached the plateau during the Rangers’ district victory vs. New Braunfels on Sept. 15. Miller is in her sixth season at Smithson Valley and previously had head-coaching stints at Holmes and Clark, her alma mater. She was a member of Clark’s 2003 UIL state-championship squad that this summer was inducted into the Northside ISD Athletics Hall of Fame.

1,000: Career kills for Reagan senior setter Lauren Garcia, who accomplished the feat during the Rattlers’ district win vs. Churchill on Sept. 11. A Louisiana Tech commit, Garcia has also registered 3,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs. Reagan takes on Brandeis at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Littleton Gym in a contest with first place in District 28-6A at the midway point on the line.
