The UIL soccer regular season is down to its final week and district championships, playoff berths and playoff seeding are on the line. Here’s what the San Antonio area high school playoff picture looks like heading into Monday’s games:
Boys
District 27-6A
Who’s in: Clemens (7-0-3), New Braunfels (5-1-4), Steele (6-4), Judson (3-4-3)
Overview: Clemens is the district champion, New Braunfels is second, Steele is third and Judson finished fourth and landed its first playoff berth since 2014.
District 28-6A
Who’s in: LEE (12-0-3), Reagan (12-1-2), Brandeis (11-3-1), Johnson (10-3-2)
Overview: LEE can secure the league crown outright with a win vs. Churchill on Tuesday. Reagan has secured no worse than second place and can nab the title with a win vs. Brandeis and a loss or tie by LEE on Tuesday. Johnson is currently fourth but could move into third place with a win vs. Madison and a loss by Brandeis.
District 29-6A
Who’s in: Harlan (14-0-1), O’Connor (10-2-3), Brennan (9-5-1)
On the cusp: Warren (8-5-2), Jay (7-5-3)
Overview: Harlan has locked up the district title, while O’Connor is second and Brennan is third. The only question mark is which team will grab the final playoff berth. Warren has the inside track for fourth place going into the district finale, needing only to defeat Sotomayor to secure it. Jay is hanging on, but has to defeat Brennan and hope Warren falls to Sotomayor.
District 26-5A
Who’s in: Boerne Champion (10-1-2), Smithson Valley (10-3), Pieper (9-2-2), New Braunfels Canyon (8-4-1)
Overview: The only certainty in this logjam is that New Braunfels Canyon has locked up fourth place. Boerne Champion is first and can earn the district title with a win Tuesday vs. Seguin. Smithson Valley hosts Pieper and can move into first with a win and a loss or tie by Boerne Champion. Pieper is third and can move into no worse than second with a win vs. Smithson Valley and could grab a share of first with a win and a loss by Boerne Champion.
District 27-5A
Who’s in: Alamo Heights (14-1), Edison (11-4), MacArthur (10-5)
On the cusp: Jefferson (10-6), Brackenridge (10-5)
Overview: Alamo Heights is the district winner and Edison and MacArthur have secured two of the other three playoff spots. Edison is second going into its district finale vs. Lanier and needs a win to remain in that position. If Edison falters, MacArthur can move into second place with a win vs. Highlands. Jefferson has concluded its district schedule and currently is in fourth. Brackenridge can nab a playoff berth with a win vs. Alamo Heights in regulation or on penalty kicks, or could force a tiebreaker vs. Jefferson with a loss to Alamo Heights on penalty kicks. District 27-5A uses PKs if a match ends tied in regulation, with the team winning the PKs earning two points and the team that loses collecting a point.
District 28-5A
Who’s in: Southwest (13-0)
On the cusp: Harlandale (8-4-1), Eagle Pass Winn (8-4-1), Southwest Legacy (7-3-3), Medina Valley (7-4-2)
Overview: Southwest secured a fifth straight district championship. From there, four teams are battling for the final three playoff spots and head-to-head matchups — Southwest vs. Southwest Legacy, Medina Valley vs. Eagle Pass Winn and Harlandale vs. McCollum — on Tuesday will help determine it. Harlandale is playoff-bound with a win, a loss by Legacy, or a loss or tie by Medina Valley. Legacy advances with a win and a loss by Medina Valley, Winn is in with a win or a Legacy loss, and Medina Valley qualifies with a win or a combination or a tie and a Legacy loss.
District 26-4A
Who’s in: Boerne (11-0), Davenport (8-2-1), Fredericksburg (6-3-2), Wimberley (5-6-1)
Overview: Two-time defending state champion Boerne captured the league title and is followed by Davenport, Fredericksburg and Wimberley. With one district remaining, the order of finish will not change.
District 27-4A
Who’s in: Memorial (7-1-1), La Vernia (6-1-1), Kennedy (6-2-1)
On the cusp: Gonzales (2-5-2), Fox Tech (2-7)
Overview: Memorial can land no worse than a share of the district crown with a win vs. Gonzales on Monday. La Vernia can notch a share of the title, but has to win its final two contests, starting with Monday’s showdown vs. Kennedy, which is tied for second. Gonzales is currently in position to grab the final playoff spot, but has to defeat Memorial. If Gonzales loses, Fox Tech can earn the last postseason berth with a win vs. Yoakum.
Girls
District 27-6A
Who’s in: New Braunfels (9-0-1), Steele (6-2-2), San Marcos (5-3-2), East Central
Overview: New Braunfels won the district title. Steele is second, San Marcos is third and East Central clinched the final playoff spot, its first since 2016.
District 28-6A
Who’s in: Johnson (13-1-1), Reagan (13-2)
On the cusp: Clark (9-5-2), Brandeis (8-4-3), LEE (9-6)
Overview: Clark blanked Brandeis 3-0 last Friday in a win-or-go-home scenario to keep alive its playoff hopes. The Cougars, who have completed their district schedule, are two points ahead of LEE and Brandeis. LEE and Brandeis both need to win to have any shot to advance, the third straight season that both clubs went into their final district game needing a win to make the playoffs. LEE faces Churchill and Brandeis takes on Reagan. Elsewhere, Johnson can wrap up the league championship with a win Tuesday vs. Madison. Reagan, which is only a point behind Johnson, needs a win and either a loss or tie by Johnson to move into the top spot.
District 29-6A
Who’s in: Taft (14-0-1), Brennan (12-3), O’Connor (11-3-1), Warren (9-4-2)
Overview: Taft claimed the district title, its first since 2002. Brennan is second and needs a win to maintain that spot. O’Connor is third, but could move up if Brennan stumbles in its district finale vs. Jay. Warren is fourth and is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2006.
District 26-5A
Who’s in: Smithson Valley (13-0), Pieper (11-2), New Braunfels Canyon (10-3), Boerne Champion (6-6-1)
Overview: Smithson Valley is the district winner. Pieper is second but needs a win or tie in its finale vs. Smithson Valley on Tuesday to hold that spot. A loss by Pieper and a win by New Braunfels Canyon would leave those teams knotted in second place, with a tiebreaker needed to determine seeding. Defending Region IV-5A champion Boerne Champion earned the final playoff spot.
District 27-5A
Who’s in: Alamo Heights (15-0), Jefferson (14-2), MacArthur (11-4), Edison (9-6)
Overview: Alamo Heights is the district champion and Jefferson is the runner-up. MacArthur is the No. 3 seed and is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2016, when it advanced to the UIL Class 6A state tournament and lost 2-1 to Dallas Highland Park in overtime in the state semifinals. Edison claimed the final playoff berth.
District 28-5A
Who’s in: Southwest (11-0-2), Medina Valley (10-2-1), Southwest Legacy (5-2-6), McCollum (6-5-2)
Overview: Southwest repeated as the league champion and Medina Valley is second. Southwest Legacy is third, a point ahead of McCollum, and needs a win vs. Southwest to secure that slot.
District 26-4A
Who’s in: Boerne (11-0), Davenport (8-2-1), Wimberley (8-3-1), Canyon Lake (6-5)
Overview: Reigning Region IV-4A winner Boerne has locked up the district crown. Davenport, which plays its district finale vs. Great Hearts Northern Oaks, is guaranteed no worse than second and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker vs. Wimberley, which has concluded its league schedule. Canyon Lake is fourth.
District 27-4A
Who’s in: La Vernia (8-0-2), Kennedy (7-1-2), Gonzales (5-2-3)
On the cusp: Memorial (2-5-3), Yoakum (1-4-5)
Overview: La Vernia and Kennedy — which is playoff-bound for the first time since 2000 — are in a race for the league title. Gonzales is third, and the final playoff position should come down to Memorial and Yoakum.
District 28-4A
Who’s in: Pleasanton (7-2-2), Floresville (7-2-1), Uvalde (7-1-1), Somerset (5-3-2)
Overview: Pleasanton holds a slim lead for the district title, just one point ahead of both Floresville and Uvalde, who square off this Friday in a contest that could have huge district championship implications. Somerset is fourth and could move up with a win and some favorable developments from the other matchups.
