3,000: Career assists for Floresville junior setter Maddie Harden, who accomplished the feat during the Jaguars’ win vs. Corpus Christi Calallen in a Class 4A Division I regional semifinals match on Tuesday.
2,000: Career assists for Davenport junior setter Lexi Dahl, who reached the milestone during the defending state champion Wolves’ win vs. Port Lavaca Calhoun in a UIL Class 4A Division I regional semifinal match.
1,000: Career digs for Steele senior Alanna Johnson, who attained the mark during the Knights’ Class 6A Division I regional semifinal match vs. Austin Westlake on Tuesday. She had 17 digs in the contest.
1,000: Total points for Antonian junior guard Shaniyah Fox, who reached the standard during the Apaches’ 75-34 win vs. Brandeis in the championship game of the silver bracket last weekend at the Tip Off in the Tone Tournament.
1,000: Career assists for Ingram junior setter Kenna Nichols, who reached the milestone during the Warriors’ triumph vs. Jim Ned in a Class 3A Division I bidistrict match on Nov. 4. Teammate Alec Alvarado, a junior libero, collected her 1,000th dig in the same contest.
700: Career wins for San Antonio Castle Hills boys basketball coach John Valenzuela. He reached the mark with the Eagles’ 66-20 victory vs. San Marcos Academy on Tuesday. Valenzuela joined Charlie Boggess, Rudy Bernal, Joe Cortez, Wayne Dickey, Stan Leech, Stan Bonewitz and Mike Wacker as the only San Antonio-area coaches to reach the 700-win plateau. Valenzuela has been a head coach for more than 30 years and previously had stints at San Antonio Christian, Madison, Saint Mary’s Hall, Smithson Valley and San Marcos. His 2007 and 2008 teams at Madison advanced to the UIL state tournament.
26: Area athletes named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)’s All-Region 4 team. Players from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi comprised the squad. Earning spots on the team were Reagan’s Mya Allen, Lauren Garcia, Shayne Zammiello and Kennedy Crider, Cornerstone’s Megan Fitch and Kaia Thiele, O’Connor’s Jaylyn Tuiasosopo and Madison Libson, New Braunfels Canyon’s Marlee Lightsey, Sala Nuu and Logan Sanders, Boerne Champion’s Ella Coleman and Azteca Crawford, Boerne’s Ava Rocchio, Calynn Ramos, Haley Wheeler and Kaylie Bourn, Madison’s Aniah Giboyeaux, Aubrey Lyssy and Deylen Mendivil, Smithson Valley’s Berkley Bates, Kerrville Tivy’s Madellyn Fielder and Leighton Hale, Johnson’s Ada Awagu and Allison Butrum and Churchill’s Allie Thompson.
