11: Area athletes selected to the inaugural Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite soccer team. Johnson’s Diego Robles and Clemens’ Kassen Dilworth made the Class 6A squad, Alamo Heights’ Ethan Ball, New Braunfels Canyon’s Niko Sellers and MacArthur’s Jacob Hirst earned spots on 5A team and Boerne’s Joe Ballenger and Jess Gonzales are on the 4A club.
On the girls side, Boerne’s Kailey Stringfellow was the 4A defensive player of the year and teammate Kinsley Sawyer was goalkeeper of the year. Davenport’s Rylee Reisdorph made the squad at forward. Alamo Heights’ Alexandra Bitter was the 5A defensive player of the year.
No area player was chosen on the 6A team.
Notebook
New leader: Boerne Champion hired Alyse Zingelmann as its new girls soccer coach. She replaced Kara Walters, who resigned from the teaching/coaching profession to work at a family business after guiding the Chargers to a 112-30-8 record, the 2022 UIL Class 5A state tournament, the Region IV-5A tournament in 2018 and the regional quarterfinals in 2019, 2021 and 2023.
Zingelmann previously was an assistant coach at Stevens and McCollum. She was a four-year starting goalkeeper at Brandeis (2014-2017), earning all-district first-team honors as a senior. Zingelmann helped the Broncos to a 63-19-6 record, three district championships and four playoff berths during her tenure. She played collegiately at Hardin-Simmons, helping the Cowgirls advance to NCAA Division III semifinals in 2017.
