Notebook
On the move: Boerne Champion hired Kelly McDaniel as its new volleyball coach. She replaced Jessica Tully-Mitchell, who left after four seasons and three playoff appearances to become head coach at Class 4A Fort Stockton in West Texas.
McDaniel spent the previous four seasons as head coach at East Central, which she guided to a 69-68 record and the Class 6A playoffs in 2021. The Hornets lost in bidistrict to state champion Brandeis. McDaniel played at O’Connor and helped the Panthers to back-to-back undefeated district championships and berths to the regional quarterfinals in 2007 and 2008. She played collegiately at Austin College.
Getting promoted: Christina Nunez, who served as assistant coach the past two seasons, is the new head girls soccer coach at Reagan. She replaced Kate McCollum, who is retiring after 23 seasons with the program, including the last five seasons as head coach.
McCollum was integral in building the program from scratch with head coach Frankie Whitlock, helping the Rattlers amass a 453-82-31 record, five trips to the UIL state tournament and 16 berths to the regional tournament. Reagan went 92-20-13 during McCollum’s five seasons as head coach, advancing to the regional final in 2022.
Nunez played on MacArthur’s 2005 and 2006 state tournament teams before playing four seasons at Northwestern Oklahoma State. She previously was head coach at Roosevelt.
