From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
400: Wins for Alamo Heights girls soccer coach Chris Sharp during his 23 seasons at the school. Sharp, who guided the Mules to the UIL Class 5A state tournament in 2006 and 2018, reached the milestone during his team’s 10-0 win vs. Brackenridge on Monday. Sharp has 475 wins overall, the third-most in San Antonio area girls history.
250: Career victories for O’Connor boys soccer coach Rob Bledsoe, who achieved the mark during the Panthers’ 7-0 win vs. Sotomayor on March 10. Bledsoe is in his 13th season at O’Connor and previously coached for one season Churchill and seven at Nederland, his alma mater.
127: The Alamo Heights girls soccer team’s goal-differential during District 27-5A competition. The Mules finished 16-0 in league play, outscoring their opponents 127-0. They averaged 7.94 goals per contest and had five games with 10 goals.
62: Consecutive district games won by the Southwest boys soccer team. The Dragons topped Southwest Legacy 5-0 on Tuesday to secure their fourth straight 14-0 mark in league play (they were 14-0 in 2020 when the season was halted with two district games left by the COVID-19 pandemic). Southwest’s last district loss was a 1-0 setback vs. Southside on Feb. 22, 2019.
35: Number of district contests won in a row by the Judson softball team before Tuesday’s 6-2 loss to Clemens. The Rockets’ last league setback previously was a 4-2 decision to New Braunfels on April 5, 2019. They won the final four district games that season, went 2-0 in 2020 before the season was ended by the COVID-19 pandemic, and recorded 14-0 campaigns in 2021 and 2022. Judson won its district opener this season vs. East Central before falling to Clemens.
