By the numbers
1,000: Career points for O’Connor senior Victoria Adeniran, who recently accomplished the feat. A 5-foot-5 guard, Adeniran has been on varsity since she was a freshman, helping the Panthers reached the Class 6A third round in 2020 before falling to defending Class 6A state champion Judson.
6: Days until the UIL soccer season starts. The University Interscholastic League permits teams across the state to play their first game on Dec. 29. The state tournament is April 12-15 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
3: Area teams selected as the No. 1 in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization’s Region IV preseason rankings. Boerne’s boys and girls earned the nod in Class 4A and Boerne Champion nabbed the top spot in the Class 5A girls listing. All three Boerne ISD advanced to the UIL state tournament a year ago, with the Boerne boys winning their second straight state championship and the Boerne and Champion girls falling in the state semifinals.
In the Class 6A boys poll, Harlan is No. 2, followed by Reagan (No. 3), Brandeis (No. 4), Johnson (No. 7) and Clemens (No. 10). Defending state champion Austin Lake Travis is No. 1. On the girls side, Reagan is No. 2, Johnson is No. 4, New Braunfels is No. 5, Taft is No. 9 and Steele is No. 10. Austin Westlake is No. 1.
Alamo Heights is No. 2 in Class 5A boys standings, followed by Smithson Valley (No. 3), New Braunfels Canyon (No. 4), Boerne Champion (No. 6), Southwest (No. 8) and Pieper (No. 9). On the girls side, Alamo Heights is No. 4, followed by Smithson Valley (No. 5) and New Braunfels Canyon (No. 8).
In 4A boys, Davenport is No. 3, La Vernia is No. 6, Fredericksburg is No. 9 and Canyon Lake is No. 10. On the girls ledger, Davenport is No. 3, Canyon Lake is No. 4, Uvalde is No. 6 and Fredericksburg is No. 10.
