10: Three-pointers made by Marshall senior Matthew Gonzalez during the Rams’ 67-53 win vs. Sam Houston on Dec. 3. Gonzalez finished with 37 points, connecting on 13 of 26 attempts, including 10 of 19 3-pointers. He also tallied eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
9: Area athletes selected to participate in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star volleyball matches. The competition, which features some of the state’s top players in Class of 2024, is in conjunction with the organization’s convention, which is scheduled for July 10-13 in Arlington.
Brandeis’ Lola Davila, Alamo Heights’ Thea Carter and O’Connor’s Neveah Smith were tabbed to play for the Red team in the Class 6A-5A match, while New Braunfels Canyon’s Megan Hawkins was chosen for the Blue squad. Fredericksburg’s Madison Frantzen, Devine’s Rylee Esquibel, Poth’s Chloe Conn and Ingram’s Madison McClintock were picked for the Red team in the 1A-4A contest. Davenport’s Talan Dodson is on the Blue squad.

Kick start: In a sign that the start of the UIL soccer season is quickly drawing near, Friday is the first day that teams can play someone other than themselves.
The University Interscholastic League, which oversees extracurricular activities in the state’s public schools, permits schools across the state to hold intersquad scrimmages. The first day that teams can officially start their season is Dec. 29, while the state tournament is April 12-15 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
