By the numbers
1,000: Career points for Marshall senior guard Matthew Gonzalez, who reached the milestone during the Rams’ 89-68 win vs. Eagle Pass at the La Joya South Texas Shootout on Nov. 17. Gonzalez tallied 39 points, including making six 3-pointers, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in the game. He is averaging 25 points per contest.
3: Days until the UIL permits high school soccer teams across Texas to conduct their first after-school practice. The first day of the regular season is Dec. 29 and the state tournament is scheduled for April 12-15 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
Boerne won its second straight Class 4A boys state champion a year ago, while the Boerne Champion (5A) and Boerne (4A) girls squads were both state semifinalists. Reagan boys and girls teams both made the Region IV-6A final, while Harlan boys and Brennan and O’Connor girls were regional semifinalists.
2: National publications that have Cornerstone listed in their final high school volleyball rankings. The Warriors (55-2) are No. 2 in both the American Volleyball Coaches Association/USA Today Super 25 and MaxPreps Top 25, behind Cathedral Catholic of San Diego (Calif.), which finished 42-0 and lost only one set all season.
