From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:

By the numbers
1,000:
Career digs for New Braunfels Canyon senior libero Isabell Woo, who reached the milestone during the Cougarettes’ win vs. Seguin on Tuesday.

1,000: Career kills for Boerne senior outside hitter Tori Adams, who accomplished the feat during the Greyhounds’ district contest vs. Wimberley on Sept. 20.

Griggs

1,000: Total assists for Boerne Champion senior setter Izzy Maszak, who attained the accomplishment during the Chargers’ win vs. Wagner on Sept. 20.

500: Career wins for Medina Valley volleyball coach Deesa Griggs, who met the standard during the Panthers’ triumph vs. Southwest Legacy on Sept. 23. Griggs is in her 15th season at Medina Valley, her alma mater, and 25th overall. She previously coached at Hondo.

433: Passing yards for Judson sophomore quarterback Elijah Favela during a 60-50 win vs. Midland Legacy on Sept. 23. The 433 yards are a school record, surpassing the previous mark of 404 by Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey vs. Steele in 2013. In his first varsity start, Favela completed 33 of 39 passes for five touchdowns and no interceptions. The five TDs are also a school record, equaling a standard previously recorded by Cap Watters vs. Clemens in 1983, Austin-Ramsey vs. East Central in 2013 and Julon Williams vs. Wagner in 2016.

32: Consecutive district volleyball matches won by Smithson Valley before losing to New Braunfels Canyon 28-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23 on Sept. 23, the 18th-longest district winning streak in area history. The Rangers hadn’t lost a league contest since falling to New Braunfels on Oct. 29, 2019, recording back-to-back 14-0 district championships during the past two seasons.

6: Touchdowns scored by Judson junior running back Nathaniel Stanley during the Rockets’ 60-50 non-district triumph vs. Midland Legacy on Sept. 23. The six TDs tied a school record first established by Chauncey Harris vs. Highlands in 2008. Stanley rushed for four TDs and caught two others, while Harris rushed for six scores.

Area commitments
Hayley Barsky, Smithson Valley volleyball: Missouri Western State
Ryan Jester, Bracken Christian baseball: UTSA
Kylan McCoy, New Braunfels Christian volleyball: Coastal Carolina (beach)
