1,000: Career points scored for basketball players Helena Chadwick of La Vernia and Maddie Soto of Antonian. Chadwick reached the milestone during the Bears’ 64-35 win vs. Kyle Lehman on Nov. 7, while Soto reached the mark during a 75-55 triumph vs. Lanier on Nov. 17.
409: Rushing yards for Holy Cross senior quarterback Jordan Battles during the Knights’ 62-14 win last week vs. Schertz John Paul II. He is believed to be the 13th area player to accomplish the feat, joining Madison’s Devin Thomas (487 yards, 2006), Edgewood’s Ronnie Asmore (476, 1985), Devine’s Joseph Sadler (466, 2011) and Jordan Fraga (454, 2012), Poteet’s Moses Rodriguez (446, 2007) and Matt Santos (439, 2009), Madison’s Aaron Green (428, 2008), Stockdale’s Matt Valadez (420, 2013) and Matt Lerma (400, 2004), Southside’s Edward Perez (414, 2017), McCollum’s Mike Ramirez (408, 2015) and Holy Cross’ Shaun Battles (406, 1994), Jordan’s father.
350: Career wins for Judson girls basketball coach Triva Corrales. She reached the milestone during the Rockets’ 63-28 victory vs. Austin Westlake on Nov. 14. Corrales is in her 17th season as a head coach and 11th at Judson, where she guided the Rockets to the 2018-19 UIL Class 6A state title, 2017-18 state finals and 2019-20 and 2016-17 state semifinals. She previously coached six seasons at Burbank.
13: Area volleyball teams that captured undefeated district championships: O’Connor (District 29-6A), Smithson Valley (27-6A), New Braunfels Canyon (26-5A), Edison (27-5A), Medina Valley (28-5A), Devine (29-4A), Hondo (30-4A), Poth (27-3A), Ingram (25-3A), D’Hanis (30-2A), S.A. Christian (TAPPS 3-6A), New Braunfels Christian (TAPPS 6-3A) and Bracken Christian (TAPPS 5-2A).
3: Area schools that will play for TAPPS volleyball championships on Friday. New Braunfels Christian looks to win its second straight crown vs. Midland Classical at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2018 final, which was won by Midland Classical. Bracken Christian faces Red Oak Ovilla in the 2A final at 3 p.m., and S.A. Atonement takes on Wichita Falls Christ Academy in the 1A finale at 11 a.m. All the matches will be played at New Braunfels Christian.
News and notes
State honor: D’Hanis senior Victoria Carter was named MaxPreps’ Texas volleyball player of the week for her performances in her team’s Region IV-1A regional semifinals and regional final victories.
A 6-foot middle hitter, Carter combined for 60 kills, 34 digs, six aces and six blocks as the Cowgirls defeated Round Top-Carmine and Fayetteville each in five sets. She had 31 kills in the regional vs. Fayetteville and 29 vs. Round Top-Carmine in the regional semifinals as D’Hanis advanced to the UIL Class 1A state semifinals for the third time in four seasons.
