From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
1,000: Career kills for Brandeis senior outside hitter Emma Halstead, who accomplished the feat during the Broncos’ match vs. vs. Pearland Dawson on Aug. 26 at the Leander Volleypalooza. Halstead earlier this season recorded her 1,000th career dig.
1,000: Career assists for Harlan sophomore setter Isabella De La Rosa, who reached the standard during the Hawks’ District 29-6A volleyball contest vs. O’Connor on Tuesday.
100: Career wins for Warren volleyball coach Heidi Scheopner Paddock, who reached the mark during the Warriors’ 26-24, 14-25, 25-20 victory vs. East Central at the Seguin tournament on Aug. 27.
100: Career victories for Stevens volleyball coach Shelby Burton, who accomplished the standard during the Falcons’ 25-17, 25-15 decision vs. San Antonio YWLA at Seguin tournament on Aug. 26.
22: Consecutive losses in football for South San before last week’s 34-21 win vs. McCollum. It was the Bobcats’ first triumph since defeating MacArthur 27-19 on Sept. 27, 2019.
2: Cornerstone’s spot in this week’s USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Super 25 national rankings. The Warriors (31-1) are the only area team to make the list and they moved up two spots from a week ago after capturing the championship at the three-day, 68-team Volleypalooza in Leander.
