Career wins for Boerne baseball coach Bill Merrell, who reached the milestone during the Greyhounds’ 9-0 decision vs. Fredericksburg on Tuesday. Merrell is in his 13th season at Boerne and 42nd overall. He previously coached at Perryton, located in the Panhandle.

200: Career victories for Steele softball coach Michelle Uribe, who accomplished the feat during the Knights’ 10-9 win vs. South San on April 14. Uribe previously coached at La Vernia.

150: Total stolen bases for Boerne senior Brooke Sivek. A Texas A&M-Kingsville signee, she reached the standard during the Greyhounds’ 10-0 district championship-clinching win vs. Fredericksburg on April 14.

150: Wins for Medina Valley softball coach Arlynda Buentello, who reached the mark during the Panthers’ 5-2 decision vs. Floresville on March 29. Buentello previously coached at Uvalde and La Pryor.

100: Wins for Highlands softball coach Monica Acuna, who reached the standard during the Owls’ 9-4 triumph vs. Kennedy on April 12.

Notebook
Statewide honor:
LEE boys soccer coach David Rogers were named the 2021 Texas boys soccer coach of the year by the National Federation of State High School Association. He was recognized at the UIL state tournament on April 23.

Rogers was lauded for guiding the Volunteers to the UIL Class 6A state championship. He is the area’s second-winningest boys soccer coach with 438 wins, second only to Alamo Heights’ Bruce Fink. Rogers previously coached at Denton Ryan, Boerne and Boerne Champion, guiding both Boerne ISD schools to state titles and Denton Ryan to the state tournament.
