From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:

By the numbers
2,000:
Career points for Cole senior guard Silas Livingston, who reached the milestone during the Cougars’ 53-49 win over Hitchcock in the Class 3A state semifinals on March 10. Livingston, who signed with Incarnate Word, helped the Cougars advance to the UIL Class 3A state tournament in all four of his varsity seasons. Cole won a state title in 2021, was a finalist this year and a state semifinalist in 2019. The team made the title game in 2020, but the contest was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

250: Career wins for Taft girls soccer coach Scott Davis, who accomplished the feat during the Raiders’ 1-0 decision vs. Stevens on March 4. Layla Rangel scored the game-winner off an assist from Julissa Gonzalez in the second half for Taft (14-4-4), which has only lost once in its last 11 contests (8-1-2) heading into the Class 6A playoffs.

48: Consecutive district wins for the Southwest boys soccer team. The Dragons defeated McCollum 10-0 on Tuesday to finish 14-0 in league play for the third straight season. Southwest’s last district setback was a 1-0 loss to Southside on Feb. 22, 2019.

40: Goals scored this season by Smithson Valley’s Brad Dildy. He reached the total with a goal during the Rangers’ 7-0 victory vs. East Central on March 11, becoming what is believed to be only the 11th area boys player to reach the mark. Dildy, who signed with North Carolina-Charlotte, joined TMI’s Piper Lee, Patricio Parra and Chris White, Taft’s Jimmy Glenn, Kennedy’s Luis Torres, Southwest’s J.P. Ortiz, Boerne Champion’s Alejandro Rubio, La Vernia’s Miguel De La Torre, Clark’s Anthony Esquivel and Jefferson’s John Mendoza in the 40-goal club.

26: Strikeouts recorded by Center Point softball pitcher Kaylee Blackledge during the Pirates’ 4-3 win in 10 innings vs. Junction on Monday. Blackledge, a junior who is committed to Texas Tech, pitched a complete game. Earlier this season, she had 18 strikeouts in a contest vs. Marion. As a sophomore in 2021, Blackledge had a 13-6 record with 268 strikeouts and a 0.77 earned-run average in 108 2/3 innings.

11: Area soccer athletes named first team all-state by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Emilie Rompel, Cecilia Lopez, Madeline Seebeck, Maeve Sullivan, Mia Heyburn, Elizabeth Seebeck and Grace McCracken of state champion Schertz John Paul II made the Division III squad. San Antonio Christian’s Kaylee Tarver and Antonian’s Kate Roberts were on the Division I team and Boerne Geneva’s Alexandra Doran made it in Division II. On the boys side, TMI’s Cristobal Parra made the Division II team. He was the lone area boys player to make the first team.
