From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
1,500: Career points for Judson senior Anariss Brandon, who accomplished the feat during the Rockets’ 69-58 win vs. Wagner on Feb. 15 that secured the District 27-6A title. A Texas A&M-Commerce signee, Brandon finished his career with 1,546 points.
100: Career wins for New Braunfels girls soccer coach Eric Norris, who reached the milestone during the Unicorns’ 2-0 triumph vs. Wagner on Tuesday. Norris is in his eighth season at New Braunfels and has led the Unicorns to UIL playoff appearances in all but one.
51: Goals scored this season by Saint Mary’s Hall senior Hunter Hoelscher. A New York University signee, Hoelscher is the 16th area girls soccer player to tally 50 goals in a season, joining Highlands’ Catalina Canizalez, Harlandale’s Ingrid Garcia and Jazmin Baltazar, LEE’s Laura Rodriguez, Bandera’s Nikole Gase, Antonian’s Sarah Hernandez, Saint Mary’s Hall’s Cissy Wafford, Schertz John Paul’s Emilie Rompel, Jefferson’s Yvonne Herrera and Diana Castillo, Boerne’s Alexis Truitt, Kerrville Tivy’s Rebecca Brock, Alamo Heights’ Megan Katona and Sophia Connelly and San Antonio Christian’s Kaylee Tarver.
Hoelscher is only the second Saint Mary’s Hall player to score 50 goals in a season, joining Wafford, who did it twice. Hoelscher finished her career with 118 goals, third in Barons history behind Wafford (135) and Erin Freeman (131).
