From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
1,000: Career points for Boerne’s Devin Styles and Jourdanton’s Emma Dorroh. Styles reached the milestone during the Greyhounds’ 54-24 win vs. Bandera on Feb. 11 and Dorroh accomplished the feat during the Squaws’ 65-22 decision vs. West Campus on Feb. 7.
100: Career wins for Southwest girls soccer coach Juan Romero, who reached the standard during the Dragons’ 5-0 triumph vs. McCollum on Tuesday.
76: Career goals for Reagan junior forward Taylor Jernigan, a school record. Jernigan, a Texas A&M commit, set the mark with her 69th goal during the Rattlers’ District 28-6A match vs. Brandeis on Feb. 1. She surpassed the previous standard of 68 recorded by Taylor Olson, who played at Reagan from 2014-2017 and later at Oklahoma State.
49: Goals scored this season by San Antonio Christian junior forward Kaylee Tarver, a school record. Tarver, committed to Mary Hardin-Baylor, tallied the game-winner in the Lions’ 1-0 win Tuesday vs. Antonian to tie the mark established by Hallie Hausman in 2018. Hausman, who played at Oklahoma State, helped S.A. Christian win a TAPPS state title in 2015 and finish as state finalist in 2016 and 2018.
