From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:

By the numbers
1,000:
Career points for Johnson senior Sierra McDermed, who reached the milestone during the Jaguars’ 69-31 triumph vs. Roosevelt on Tuesday. McDermed is signed with Vassar College (N.Y.).

300: Wins for Smithson Valley boys soccer coach Eric Nichols, who accomplished the feat during the Rangers’ 3-0 victory over South San on Feb. 5. Nichols previously coached the boys teams at Galena Park North Shore and Jersey Village and the girls teams at Humble Atascocita and Galveston Ball.

250: Career wins for Johnson girls soccer coach Scott Stone, who reached the mark during the Jaguars’ 2-1 decision vs. Reagan on Feb. 5. Stone previously coached at O’Connor, where he led the Panthers to the regional final in 2001 and 2016.

200: Total wins for Medina Valley boys soccer coach Nathan Payne, who registered the achievement during the Panthers’ 6-1 triumph vs. McCollum on Jan. 28. Payne previously coached at Uvalde.

100: Career victories for Schertz John Paul II boys basketball coach Forrest Blackwell, who recorded the milestone during the Guardians’ 69-20 win over San Antonio Lutheran on Feb. 5.

41: Points scored by Smithson Valley senior Gabby Elliott during the Rangers’ 78-62 victory vs. South San on Feb. 5. The total is a school record, surpassing the previous mark of 37 points by Tiffany Friesenhahn in 1992. Elliott also established a school record for points in a season (557) in the process. A St. Mary’s signee, she is the Rangers’ leader for career points and rebounds and single-season rebounds.

29: Consecutive district soccer matches played by the Boerne girls team without a loss before Tuesday’s 2-1 setback vs. Davenport. It was Boerne’s first league loss since a 2-0 decision to Wimberley on March 2, 2018, and only the second in the past eight years. The Greyhounds are 58-2-4 since a 5-1 loss to Alamo Heights on March 18, 2014.

4: Years since the Fredericksburg girls basketball team last lost a district game. Boerne nipped Fredericksburg 37-35 on Feb. 5, snapping the Battlin’ Billies’ 37-game district winning streak. It was Fredericksburg’s first district setback since a 49-38 loss to Canyon Lake on Feb. 2, 2018.

3: Area girls soccer teams in the latest Prep Soccer Fab 50 national rankings. Johnson is No. 30, Reagan is No. 32 and Madison is No. 33. No area boys teams are ranked.
