34: Area teams that earned spots in this week’s Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) state rankings. On the boys side, Clemens is No. 24 in Class 6A. Jefferson (No. 18), Veterans Memorial (No. 23) and Boerne Champion (No. 24) made it in 5A, Boerne (No. 9), Somerset (No. 11) and Pleasanton (No. 20) earned slots in 4A. Defending state champion Cole is No. 2 in 3A, Lytle is No. 15 and Marion is No. 25. Antonian is No. 1 in TAPPS 6A, followed by Central Catholic (No. 3) and S.A. Christian (No. 10). TMI is No. 7 in 5A, Schertz John Paul is No. 6 and S.A. Lutheran is No. 10 in 4A, New Braunfels Christian is No. 9 in 3A and Fredericksburg Heritage is No. 4 in 1A.
On the girls side, Clark is No. 6, Johnson is No. 16 and Judson is No. 24 in 6A. Boerne Champion is No. 25 in 5A, Fredericksburg is No. 5, Boerne is No. 11, Navarro is No. 12 and Devine is No. 24 in 4A and Poth is No. 11 in 3A. Antonian is No. 6 in TAPPS 6A, Boerne Geneva is No. 1 and Saint Mary’s Hall is No. 7 in 5A, S.A. Lutheran is No. 2 and Holy Cross is No. 10 in 4A. Christian School of Castle Hills is No. 8 in 3A and Fredericksburg Heritage is No. 9 in 1A.
10: Days until the start of the UIL soccer season. Teams across the state can play their first match on Jan. 3. Regional tournaments are April 8-9, with the Region IV-6A event at Blossom Stadium, the IV-5A tournament in Corpus Christi and the IV-4A competition in McAllen. The state tournament is April 13-16 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
LEE is the defending Class 6A boys state champion and Boerne is the reigning 4A boys winner.
2: Area teams that earned spots in Prep Soccer’s Fab 50 national rankings. LEE is No. 6 on the boys list, while Reagan is No. 27 in the girls poll.
Texas teams comprised 18 of the 50 teams in the boys rankings. Birmingham Charter of California is No. 1. Sixteen of the top 50 girls teams hail from Texas. Flower Mound is No. 1. The Woodlands, coached by former Reagan coach Frankie Whitlock, is No. 9 and defending 5A state champion Dripping Springs, which is in the same district with the likes of Alamo Heights, Boerne Champion and New Braunfels Canyon, is No. 50.
