From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
1,250: Career assists for Madison senior setter Angelina Rodriguez, who accomplished the feat during the Mavericks’ 25-14, 21-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-12 win vs. Reagan on Oct. 5.
350: Career wins for Smithson Valley volleyball coach Melissa Miller, who reached the milestone during the Rangers’ 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 victory vs Clemens on Tuesday. Miller is in her first season at Smithson Valley and 13th overall. She previously coached at Holmes and her alma mater Clark, which Miller helped win the UIL Class 5A (now 6A) state championship in 2003 as a player and led to the Region IV-6A final in 2018 and 2019 as a coach.
31: The number of both kills and digs that Kerrville Tivy senior outside hitter Ally Scheidle registered in the Antlers’ five-set win vs. Seguin on Oct. 8. She also added two aces and a block as Kerrville Tivy remained tied with Dripping Springs for second place in District 26-5A, one win behind New Braunfels Canyon.
6: Days until the UIL allowed girls basketball teams across the state to conduct their first after-school practice. The season begins Nov. 5 and culminates with the state tournament March 3-5 at the Alamodome.
