From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:

By the numbers
3,000:
Career assists for Antonian senior setter Olivia Arredondo, who accomplished the feat during the Apaches’ win vs. New Braunfels Christian on Tuesday. Arredondo’s total was reached in only three seasons. She missed her sophomore campaign in 2019 recovering from a knee injury.

1,500: Career assists for Madison senior setter Rylee Davis. A Bethune-Cookman commit, Davis attained the achievement during the Mavericks’ five-set win vs. Churchill on Oct. 1. She also recorded her 1,000th dig.

1,000: Career digs for New Braunfels Canyon senior outside hitter Kyla Malone, who reached the mark during Tuesday’s win vs. Alamo Heights. Malone, who is committed to Incarnate Word, also notched her 1,000th kill earlier this season.

100: Career wins for Steele volleyball coach Jordan Madill, who reached the milestone during the Knights’ 25-22, 20-25, 15-25, 25-14, 15-13 triumph vs. East Central on Tuesday. Madill is in her fifth season at Steele.

40: Wins this season for the Cornerstone volleyball team. The Warriors (40-10) attained the feat by going 6-2 and finishing in sixth place at the 32-team Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz., on Oct. 1-2. One of their losses was to Marymount of California, the No. 1 team in USA Today/AVCA Super 25 and MaxPreps’ top 25 national rankings. Cornerstone is the 15th area team to record a 40-win season, joining Reagan, Churchill, Johnson, New Braunfels, La Vernia, Navarro, Incarnate Word, Poth, Clark, Brandeis, O’Connor, Alamo Heights, Holy Cross and Clemens.

28: Consecutive district volleyball wins for New Braunfels Canyon before falling to Dripping Springs 25-23, 24-26, 25-17, 29-31, 15-12 in a District 26-5A showdown on Oct. 1. It was the Cougarettes’ first league setback since losing to Clemens in five sets on Oct. 15, 2019.

22: Consecutive volleyball matches that Madison had lost to Reagan before Tuesday’s 25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-12 win in District 28-6A action. It was the Mavericks’ first win vs. Reagan since a five-set triumph on Sept. 23, 2011. Madison had lost 39 of 40 matches to the Rattlers dating back to the 2004 season.

2: National publications that have Brandeis listed in the top 10 of their national volleyball rankings. The Broncos are No. 9 in both the USA Today/AVCA Super 25 and MaxPreps top 25 polls. The Broncos moved up three spots from a week ago in the MaxPreps rankings.
