2000: The year that Judson last lost three straight football games in a season before during so this year. The Rockets lost to New Braunfels 24-21 Thursday in the teams’ District 27-6A opener, a setback that followed losses to Austin Lake Travis and A&M Consolidated in the previous two weeks.
Twenty-one years ago, Judson started 8-0 before ending the regular season with losses to MacArthur and Churchill and falling in bidistrict to Austin Westlake. It ended up being legendary coach D.W. Rutledge’s final season at Judson before leaving to become executive director of the Texas High School Coaches Association.
With Thursday’s win, New Braunfels defeated Judson for the first time since 2010, snapping a 10-game losing streak in the series.
750: Career wins for O’Connor volleyball coach Yami Garcia, who reached the milestone during the Panthers’ victory over Fort Bend Ridge Point at the Volleypalooza in Leander on Aug. 28. Garcia is in her 24th season at O’Connor and guided the Panthers to the UIL Class 6A state tournament in 2017 and 2018.
17: Brandeis’ ranking in this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 poll, up three spots from a week ago. The Broncos are No. 8 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/USA Today Super 25 national rankings.
2: Years that had passed since Judson last won a district match in volleyball before Tuesday’s 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 19-17 decision over Clemens. The Rockets snapped a 20-match losing streak in league play and recorded their first district triumph since outlasting San Marcos 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 15-6 on Oct. 11, 2019.
