3: Days until the UIL softball season starts. The state tournament is scheduled for June 2-5. The 2020 season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic just as most teams were starting district competition. D’Hanis won the Class 1A state title in 2019, while New Braunfels Canyon (6A) and Fredericksburg (4A) were state semifinalists.
7: Days until the UIL girls swimming and diving championships kick off at North East ISD’s Davis Natatorium and Walker Pool. The 6A meet starts at 10 a.m. on Feb. 19 with swimming prelims. Diving is at 2 p.m. and swimming finals are at 5 p.m. The 5A competition begins at 10 a.m. on Feb. 20 with swimming prelims. Diving is at 2 p.m. and swimming finals are at 5 p.m.
250: Career wins for Highlands girls basketball coach Adrianna Wiatrek. She reached the milestone during the Owls’ 68-58 victory Thursday over Southwest Legacy in a Class 5A bidistrict game.
1,000: Career points for Central Catholic senior Julian Sanchez, who reached the mark during the Buttons’ 63-56 win Tuesday vs. San Antonio Christian.
