From the hardwood to the gridiron and beyond, taking a look back and ahead at the San Antonio-area high school sports landscape:
By the numbers
400: Career wins for LEE boys soccer coach David Rogers, who reached the milestone during the Volunteers’ 1-0 decision Tuesday vs. Reagan in a District 28-6A opener. He is the fourth area boys coach to collect 400 wins, joining Alamo Heights’ Bruce Fink, Southwest’s Hector Sandoval and Antonian’s Walter Rule.
Rogers, who has a 400-105-42 overall record, previously was head coach at Boerne High, Boerne Champion and Denton Ryan and an assistant at Granbury. He led Boerne to a UIL state title in 2006 and Boerne Champion to the top prize in 2011. He was an assistant on Granbury’s 1999 state championship-winning squad and also led Denton Ryan (2001) and LEE (2019) to state-tournament appearances.
350: Wins for Alamo Heights girls soccer coach Chris Sharp during his 20 seasons at the school. He reached the mark during the Mules’ 2-1 season-opening victory vs. Beeville at the Pleasanton tournament on Jan. 7.
117: Career goals for TMI senior forward Patricio Parra, the most in area boys soccer history. A Cornell signee, Parra accomplished the feat with three goals in a 12-1 victory vs. Saint Mary’s Hall on Tuesday, surpassing the previous mark of 115 set by Southwest’s J.P. Ortiz. Parra, who a year ago tallied 59 goals — second-most in area history — entered this season tied with former Taft standout Carl Junot for second place with 105.
41: Consecutive district girls soccer games played by Clark without a loss before Tuesday’s 2-0 setback vs. Brandeis. The Cougars were 38-0-3, winning three straight district titles, since a 2-1 loss to Brandeis on Feb. 24, 2018.
