By the numbers
1,000: Total kills for Cornerstone senior middle hitter Elly Stewart. She reached the standard Thursday while the Warriors competed at the Kamehameha Schools Labor Day Classic in Hawaii. Stewart, who is committed to Southern Mississippi, is in her second season with the Warriors. She also played two seasons at Three Rivers before transferring.
1,000: Career kills for Brandeis senior outside hitter Lola Isaeff, who reached the mark during the Broncos’ non-district match vs. New Braunfels Canyon on Tuesday. Isaeff, a Texas Tech commit, is the only holdover from Brandeis’ 2021 UIL Class 6A state championship squad.
1,000: Career digs for New Braunfels Canyon senior libero Sala Nuu, who reached the milestone on Aug. 16 at the John Turner Classic in Pearland.
1,000: Career assists for New Braunfels Canyon sophomore setter Logan Sanders, who accomplished the feat vs. Friendswood at the Fraulein Volleyfest on Aug. 24.
1,000: Career assists for Reagan sophomore setter Lauren Garcia, who met the plateau while the Rattlers competed at the Fraulein Volleyfest Aug. 22-24 in New Braunfels
900: Career wins for Poth coach Patti Zenner, who accomplished the mark with the Pirettes’ 28-26, 22-25, 25-18 triumph vs. Lumberton at Wimberley’s Tex-Fest tournament on Aug. 16. Zenner, who has guided the Pirettes to nine UIL Class 3A state championships, joins Cornerstone’s Mike Carter as the only San Antonio-area coaches to reach the milestone. She is in her 32nd season at Poth and 33rd overall and previously coached at Woodsboro.
800: Total wins for New Braunfels Canyon volleyball coach Heather Sanders, who reached the mark with the Cougarettes’ victory vs. Friendswood at Fraulein Volleyfest on Aug. 24. Sanders, who is only the sixth San Antonio-area coach to reach the milestone, is in her 26th season at Canyon and has led the Cougarettes to five UIL state tournament appearances.
600: Total victories for Brandeis volleyball coach Maddie Williams, who reached the mark with a win vs. Steele at the Katy/Cy-Fair tournament on Aug. 17. Williams, a Clark alum, is in her 17th season at Brandeis and 26th overall and previously was head coach at Luling and Klein Collins. She guided Brandeis to the UIL Class 6A state title in 2021.
350: Career wins for Jay volleyball coach Sandra Longoria, who reached the standard with the Mustangs’ fourth-set decision vs. Holmes on Aug. 20. Longoria is in her ninth season at Jay and previously coached at Victoria West, leading her teams to three district titles and two regional tournament berths (2010 and 2011), and also coached in Florida.
150: Career wins for Steele volleyball coach Jordan Madill, who reached the mark during the Knights’ victory vs. Davenport on Aug. 13. Madill is in her eighth season at Steele.
100: Career wins for Clark volleyball coach Amy Wagner, who reached the standard with the Cougars’ 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 decision vs. Smithson Valley on Aug. 20. Wagner, a former standout setter at MacArthur and Nicholls State, is in her fourth season as head coach at Clark.
100: Career wins for Navarro volleyball coach Paige Poth, who reached the mark during the Panthers’ victory vs. Austin Ann Richards at the Bastrop tournament on Aug. 22. Poth, a Pleasanton graduate, is in her second season at Navarro and sixth overall. She previously was head coach at Clifton and Cole and an assistant coach at Poteet and New Braunfels.
37: Consecutive district wins for the Alamo Heights volleyball team before Tuesday’s four-set loss vs. Kerrville Tivy. It was the Mules’ first league setback since falling to New Braunfels Canyon 25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-17 on Oct. 5, 2021.
3: Publications that have Cornerstone listed in their national volleyball rankings. The Warriors are No. 9 in MaxPreps’ preseason Top 25 rankings, No. 14 in SBLive Power 25 rankings and No. 16 in vbrecruiter.com’s Top 50 preseason rankings.

Hall worthy: Former longtime Boerne ISD basketball coach Stan Leech has been selected for induction into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame. The ceremony is scheduled for May 10, 2025, during the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) clinic.
Leech, who has served as Boerne ISD athletic director for the past quarter-century, collected 833 wins, 12 district titles and 27 playoff appearances in 32 seasons. He coached at Boerne High for 22 seasons, leading the Greyhounds to two UIL state tournaments (1990 and 2008). He coached 10 seasons at Boerne Champion.
Texas Tech women’s basketball coach Krista Gerlich, who previously was head girls basketball coach at Taft (1994-97) and Reagan (1999-2000), will also be inducted.
