New leader: Lilly Rost has been hired as MacArthur’s new head volleyball coach. She replaced Megan Liverett, who left after seven seasons and Class 5A playoff berths in 2022 and 2023 to take over at Class 6A power O’Connor.
Rost (nee Chapa) is a Harlandale graduate, where she played for legendary Coach Sylvia Cardenas and was district MVP in volleyball in 2006 and 2007. She also played soccer for the Indians and was selected as the district’s defensive MVP in 2007.
During the past two seasons, Rost was head girls soccer coach and assistant volleyball coach at Harlandale.
Nation’s best: Reagan senior Audrey Choi was named to Volleyball magazine’s Fab 50 beach team. The list recognizes the country’s top high school beach players in the Class of 2024.
Choi is signed with Cal-Davis, which competes in the Big West Conference. She was one of two San Antonio-area athletes honored by the publication. Stockdale freshman Leann Wise was named one of the nation’s top underclassmen. The 6-foot Wise had 677 kills — including a season-best 37 vs. Johnson City — a .384 hitting percentage, 447 digs and 210 aces in the fall and helped Stockdale advance to the Region IV-2A semifinals.
