By the numbers
1,875: Career kills for Antonian senior outside hitter Kalina Calvillo, a school record. A four-year starter and Troy University (Ala.) signee, Calvillo surpassed the previous mark of 1,798 by Shelby Sheets, who played for the Apaches from 2013-2016.
1,000: Total points scored by Clark’s 6-foot-4 senior Arianna Roberson, who reached the milestone at the Austin Bowie’s BeYOUtiful Classic on Nov. 10. Roberson, one of the nation’s top recruits, recently signed with Duke.
200: Career wins for Clark girls basketball coach Rihana Houy, who accomplished the feat during the Cougars’ 50-45 victory vs. Cedar Hill at Allen Hoopfest on Nov. 17. Houy, in her eighth season at Clark, was recently named the National Federation of State High School Associations’ 2022-23 Texas girls basketball coach of the year. She is one of two Northside ISD’s coaches to earn the honor. Brandeis’ Maddie Williams was the recipient for volleyball.
8: Area schools earning spots in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization’s preseason state rankings. LEE is No. 2 and Reagan is No. 7 in Class 6A, Southwest is No. 9 in 5A and Boerne is No. 5 in 4A on the boys side. Johnson is No. 7 in 6A, Smithson Valley is No. 8 in 5A and Davenport is No. 3 and Boerne is No. 6 in 4A on the girls side.
6: Area athletes named to TAPPS’ All-State first team in volleyball. Antonian’s Gabby Reeves, Sofia Scheuerman and Calvillo made the Class 6A squad after leading the Apaches to the state final. Alysa Walker and Sidney Duncan of state champion Keystone and New Braunfels Christian’s Tessa West were selected to the 3A team.
3: Area volleyball players named as an All-American by MaxPreps. Cornerstone junior outside hitter Megan Fitch, a Texas A&M commit, earned a spot on the publication’s All-America first team after racking up 459 kills, 328 digs, 43 aces and 24 blocks. Reagan outside hitter Mya Allen and Cornerstone setter Kaia Thiele joined Fitch on MaxPreps’ All-American Junior team, which features the nation’s top players in the Class of 2025. Allen had 766 kills, 501 digs and 71 blocks, while Thiele, who is pledged to Nevada-Las Vegas, notched 596 assists, 222 digs and 21 aces.

Hall worthy: Alamo Heights girls soccer coach Chris Sharp was inducted into the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization’s Hall of Honor on Nov. 17 in Galveston. He is the seventh area coach to receive the honor, joining Audrey Ambrose (2010), Walter Rule (2014), Bruce Fink (2015), Frankie Whitlock (2017), Larry Schaffer (2022) and New Braunfels Canyon boys coach Rob Rush (2016).
Sharp, who is entering his 24th season at Alamo Heights, led the Mules to UIL Class 5A state tournament appearances in 2006 and 2018.
State’s finest: Boerne Champion’s Bexon Harrison was named MVP of the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Super Elite water polo boys team. He was joined by Brandeis’ Ben Brockmeier, Clark’s Evan Croley and Cole Faux and Boerne Champion’s Will Harrison. Brandeis’ Grace Goldhammer made the girls squad.
