Marquee game
Madison vs. Reagan, 7 p.m. Friday at Heroes Stadium:
The schools that have dominated District 28-6A over the past decade meet with an opportunity for one to bolster its chances of adding another crown.
Reagan has won six league titles (2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020) and Madison has claimed three (2012, 2018, 2019) in the previous 10 seasons. Only Johnson in 2017 has interrupted the streak.
The Rattlers (2-2 overall, 2-0 in district) have apparently found their footing after opening the season with losses to state-ranked Brennan and Steele, rolling past Clark and LEE by a 76-10 margin. Madison (3-1, 2-0) has won two in a row since a Week 2 setback vs. Smithson Valley.
Both teams have been stout on defense, with Madison allowing 13.8 points per game and Reagan conceded 14.8.

Notable games
Marion at Jourdanton, 7:30 p.m. Friday:
The Bulldogs hit the road for a District 14-3A-I encounter, looking to equal their best start in program history. Marion (5-0 overall, 1-0 in district) started 6-0 in 1982 before falling to La Vernia 21-18. The Bulldogs finished 7-3 and missed the playoffs that season. Jourdanton (2-3, 1-0) has won two in a row after a 0-3 start.

Corpus Christi Calallen at Cornerstone, 7:30 p.m. Friday: Phil Danaher, the state’s winningest coach with 484 victories, brings his undefeated Wildcats (4-0) to the Alamo City for this non-district affair vs. Cornerstone. Calallen has proven its can win in different ways, averaging 48 points in its first two wins and allowing a combined seven points in its last two. Cornerstone won 24-20 a year ago.

Cole at Randolph, 7:30 p.m. Friday: San Antonio’s version of Air Force (Randolph) vs. Army (Cole) adds another chapter when the teams square off in a District 14-3A-I contest. It’s the league opener for the Ro-Hawks (2-2), while Cole (3-2) aims to rebound after falling to Poteet last week in its district opener.

Tale of the tape
Roosevelt running back Brennan Carroll vs. Brandeis’ defense:
A junior, Carroll has rushed for a combined 371 yards and four touchdowns over the past two weeks for the Rough Riders (3-2 overall, 2-1 in District 28-6A), including a 230-yard performance two weeks ago vs. LEE. He’s averaged 14.3 yards per attempt during the span as Roosevelt has won two in a row. Brandeis’ rushing defense is yielding 73.6 yards an outing, and its effectiveness could be integral as the Broncos look to bounce back from their first setback of the season, a 28-22 decision vs. Johnson.
The teams play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Farris Stadium.
